I love, love, love rain and thunderstorms. Wind is pretty cool, too.

I always expect people to aske me what exactly my blog is supposed to be about but no one ever has. I guess I've expected that because as far as blogs go, the content is fairly varied. Some personal, some not. No particular niche other than being adult oriented.

Last Day

Marriage and Honeymoons

How do you react to heat? Does it make you want to get naked? Does it make you want to sprawl out in front of a fan? Or does it make you want to crawl into the basement and hide until summer is over?

Time

I'm finding more and more that my "real job" is getting in the way of my freelance work! That's a good thing though right?

Today I am putting in major writing time to make a deadline that has been assigned to me because someone else screwed it up. That feels good because I feel like clients can count on me. By the end of today I will have completed upwards of 10,000 words. That is good to know that I can do that (assuming that I can push past the pain and get it all done!). I was worried for some time that I might not be able to.

But, I also need to find time to get some blogs ready for next week. I've taken over as the Between the Sheets blogger at 451 Press and I need to stick to a committed schedule. Not something I'm used to. Blogging has always been extra-curricular up until this point. Now it is part of a job. But that's ok. I still love it and I'm glad to have a chance to do this. Speaking of blogging, for those of you who love Verdanna's Diary it is available in blog format now as well. Just a little something to make reading easier for you. The big issue is that I need to write some new episodes!

I also had an opportunity to pick up some other bloggin gigs this weekend for some really decent pay but I don't know how much time I'll have to do it. Depends on how long it takes me to hit this deadline!

I think the time has come for me to realize that the day job has to go. I just have to decide when.

Fiction

I haven't written any fictional stories in sot long I don't know if I remember how. Of course, I'm sure it's just like riding a cock - you get on and ride. You don't forget how. Sure it might take a few dozen strokes to get your rythym but you'll get it.

So, with a little time on my hands (my last assignment finished on Wednesday and I don't have anything new or critical that needs my attention ) I feel the need to write some fiction. I could write a new episode of Verdanna's Diary but I'm not sure where I'm going with that now. It's been over a month - likely two - since I wrote the last segment.

I did submit a story to For the Girls. It had previously been sent to and rejected by Clean Sheets. I think it was a little too hardcore for their tastes. My writing tends to lean more towards the hardcore than the erotic. What I've read of For the Girls tends to be a little more like my style of writing.

So, I'm not sure where to go from here. I need inspiration. My muse is currently sleeping though and really needs as much sleep as he can get so I guess I won't be selfish and wake him up. Although...no, he needs sleep.

I used to work in restaurants both as a cook and as a waitress. And I have to say I really miss it some days.

A Janesguide Review

So, since our memberships became available to the public at Inky Blue Allusions I've been waiting for our review request to go through at Janes Guide. The big day finally came and it is now up for all to see. But it is not everything I hoped for. Go read our review for yourself on the "Newest Listings" page (we're about half way down the first page by now).

Don't get me wrong - I'm not upset because it is bad (it's not horrible). If it was bad and there were justifiable points I'd deal with it. I'd fix it and request another review in 6 months time or whatever the timing is. I'm fairly new still in this business so I know that there's still a lot for me to learn.

There are two things that have me feelin' not so thrilled about my Janes Guide review at the moment.

This statement: "My only complaint about Inky Blue Allusions is the amount of advertising I found. Some of their advertising masquerades as content, so beware when clicking." We got a high advertising rating. Can anyone tell me what ads they might be referring to? Since the review went up I took down three ads I had up for clickbank affiliates. They went to a page on clickbank but they were obviously ads and there was three of them on three separate pages. They weren't disguised as content at all. The Galleries page is full of links to pictures on affiliate's site but it says that on the page. When I look at other similar type sites, I see ad content. Oysters and Chocolate has a low advertising rating and they have 3-5 ads on every page. I simply don't understand.
There is no mention whatsoever of the content in our membership site. None. In fact, I checked my logs on the membership site all the way back to when it got started and no one from janesguide loged in with the password I gave them. So, I don't think this is a complete review. What's the point of getting reviewed if the membership section gets no attention?

Overall, I'm disappointed because I don't feel that it was given very much attention. Is there anything I can do? I don't know. Is there anything you can do? Maybe.

Can you really find romance online? What is the difference between those who find it and those who don't?

First of all, you can find romance, dating partners, and even real relationships online. It happened to me and there are several other people here on writing up that have had success with it. I'm getting married in August and celebrated 1 year of being with my fiance on Friday.
But what is the difference between people who really do meet and build relationships with people online. Is there a specific time line that you should chat before you meet? Do you have to be good looking? What's the deal?

Honesty
I think the first thing you have to do is be honest. Not just in your ad, but be honest with yourself. What are you looking for? A date? A one night stand? Or a relationship? Knowing those things will affect how you screen potential partners.
Of course, be honest with your ad. If you have intentions of meeting someone, don't try to make yourself seem more attractive than you are. They'll find out so tell the truth. But play up your good qualities. If you have great eyes, then say so or better yet, show it. A picture that focuses on someone's eyes can be very appealing. Eyes are intimate and people believe them to be revealing. In fact, that is what attracted me to my fiances picture. His eyes seemed gentle and honest and I really liked that. If you have an outstanding quality tell them. But don't just say, "I have a great sense of humor." Show them. Make your ad funny or tell a funny story.

The more information you supply on your ad, the better the chances of meeting someone that is attracted to the type of person you are. If you have 5 lines that give only your basic stats there's not much there for them to work with is there? Most people won't take a chance even chatting online with someone they know absolutely nothing about. You don't have to reveal anything over personal but sharing a story or giving some details about how you live your life or your ethics or what your friendships are like can be very revealing.

Online dating can work but only if you want it to. You need to be patient and realize that the first few people you chat with and possibly even the first few people you meet are not going to be "the one". Listen to your instincts. Have fun. And play safe.

Funny, but there doesn't seem to be much of a difference. In fact, sensual seems to be just a step further towards the sexual than sexy does.

I tend to think of it being the other way around though. I think of sensual as being more understated and sexy as being more "out there" or "in your face".

There is a lot of controversy about sex education in the school system. There are parents who choose to have their children not attend (and I believe that it is policy to remove a child from the classroom with a written note from a parent) and there are parents who think it's great because now it's out of their hands.

Regardless of whether or not we choose to let our children attend, as parents we must realize that their education can not stop there. The school is really only allowed to teach the technical parts of sex ed – what goes where, body parts, how to use a condom, etc. If you feel that this should be part of your child's education, great. But there is a lot more to sex education than that that the schools are not allowed to teach.The school is not allowed to express any opinions about what is better – abstinence, safer sex, etc. This is something we as parents much teach our children. Youths who choose not to have sex (either until they are grown or until marriage) often do so because their parents have been talking to them about it from a fairly young age. They've expressed the view that sex is something special worth waiting for. They've talked to their teens about the emotional aspects of it. These young people understand the pains – both emotional and physical – that can come with having sex before they are either emotionally capable of handling it.

I grew up fairly religious (ironically yes, by my own choice, not so much my parents) and I chose not to have sex as a teenager. I chose not to mostly because I knew that I was not ready for that kind of relationship, because I had a respect for the seriousness of a sexual relationship, and because I believed in making it special.The bottom line is that kids need to know – and I believe want to know – about the emotional aspects of sexuality – not the how to's. I believe that young teens often get involved in sexual activities because they have a skewed vision of what sex is and what purpose it serves in their lives. Talking to our kids about those things will prevent them from having to go out and find out for themselves.

Yay us! Inky Blue Allusions is one year old this month! And what a journey it has been. You know, I started Inky Blue Allusions on a whim. I was playing around on the computer, debating on where to send my next story and working on Sorority (not sure what I wanted to do with it) when I remembered my ideas for a website. I wanted to start a website where writers could publish their work, where they could feel that they had some real input, and where they could feel at home. I wanted to create a site for readers that loved erotica but were tired of the sites where anyone could put their stories up so that they, the readers, would have to sift through the rubble to find the good stuff. Ultimately, that is still my goal and I believe IBA reaches it on different levels as time goes on.

We've grown so much, too. It all started with a email delivery subscription to individual serials. Then came the short stories. Then galleries, a membership section, personalized stories, audioerotica, and the Inky Blue Allusions Lulu store. We've changed templates, changed web hosts, and joined some great web rings.

I have to give special thanks to Sara Winters, our Queen of Marketing and Promotions, who has spent a lot of time and effort getting our name out there. Benefits of the Freebie

If you have a fledgling website that is just getting off the ground I can not stress the benefits of writing freebies. This applies to most websites, but in the case of erotica it may be one of the best ways to get your name out there.

There are many erotica/story sites out that that publish for free but will include a link in your bio if you request it. If your story is extraordinarily good readers may be willing to check out your pay-site. No matter what site you are writing for, make sure you are submitting quality work. Give them a good example of what you are capable of.

Editing Erotica

Editing is editing when it comes right down to it. There are things you'll always look for: grammar, spelling, wordiness, readability. But editing erotica has it's own special things you need to watch for, whether you're editing your own or other's work.

Repetitiveness
There are only so many times that readers can stand reading those euphemisms for body parts. If you use the c*ck word or the pu**y word over and over again in a story, your readers will get bored! Mix it up! But keep in mind that certain words do not go with certain types of stories. If you are writing erotica that leans more towards the romantic, you don't want to use the hardcore words that are going to scare your readers away. If you're writing hardcore erotica that leans more towards porn, heaving bosoms just are going to do the trick. Choose your words carefully and try to add some variety.

The dragging scene
Yes, there is such a thing as too much sex. In good erotica anyway. If you're writing jerk off material, you can put as much sex as you want in there, but even then, you're readers will drift away or skim down to the good parts if your scene drags on too long. If you're writing erotica for a discerning type of reader, they want to know why she likes being spanked, how she feels about the man with his tongue in her ... Get the picture. Erotica is not just about sex. It's about the people who are having sex and everything that is going on in their minds. Don't be afraid to reveal some of that.

Cliches
Cliches are never good in any writing but especially in erotica they should be strictly avoided. If you can find half a dozen other stories that use the exact same phrases as you've used, then it is cliche. Try to think of some new and original phrases and comparisons. But make them match your subject. Sorry guys, but most women don't want to be compared to a car!

Edit your erotica thoroughly for grammar, spelling, wordiness and readability - please - but keep these things in mind as well!

Thinking about Romance

Romance = flowers, candlelight, satin sheets, lingerie, bubble baths…

Is that definition solid? Carved in the mahogany of your matrimonial bed? If it is, it shouldn’t be. Definitions can hold us back and bind us (and not in a good way) and if we insist on holding onto them we are often disappointed.

Webster’s defines romance as “a medieval literary form…dealing with deeds of chivalry or with historical or mythological events…an imaginative story of idealized love…pure exaggeration, falsehood…to indulge in highly exaggerated stories.” Webster’s defines romantic as “…not based on fact, fanciful, or exaggerated.”

Think about this for a minute –if your man brought you flowers everyday after work and every night he drew you a bubble bath followed by a candle light reading of poetry he wrote just for you – would you still consider it romantic? Of course not. That’s why it is romantic. It’s based on preconceived notions of idealized love, not reality.

Men need to understand that romance is simply thinking of your partner in a more significant way. Think about what you can do for her that is meaningful to her. It might be flowers but it might be something as simple as taking over one of her hobs for the evening or giving her the time to go shopping with her friends. Step away from your everyday routines and do something extraordinary – even if only a little

We women, on the other hand, need to see the attempts our men make to be romantic. If you hold onto the idea of romance that we started out with – flowers, candlelight, etc. – you might find yourself perpetually wanting. Remember, romance is just an exaggerated expression of love. Take time to appreciate the ways he tries to indulge you. Don’t cling to preconceived “romantic” ideals. They may be hurtful to your relationship. Don’t give up on the flowers and bubble baths, but do realize that romance can be found every where if you are looking for it.

And if it really can’t be seen? If he really doesn’t attempt to exaggerate his love? Print this out and leave it in his briefcase! Hopefully he’ll take the hint.

So, you've had a long day. You've been running around the office all day, having meetings, in phone conferences, and meeting deadlines. Or perhaps you've been chasing a toddler, cleaning house, doing groceries, and basically making every one's day more enjoyable. Either way, you're exhausted. You climb into bed, pull the covers up to your chin and get ready to drift into a peaceful sleep. But it doesn't come. Instead you lay there staring at the ceiling. Sound familiar? To many this is a common theme when it comes to sleeping. After a hectic day, it is sometimes difficult to relax enough to fall asleep. And sometimes when they do fall asleep, it is not restful but spattered with crazy dreams that have them tossing and turning. So what do you do?

For many the answer is masturbation. Being Bisexual

I don't tell many people that I am bi-sexual. Why? It confuses them. No, seriously, they get all discombobulated and don't know what to think. If I tell a straight woman that I'm bi she automatically worries that I've been checking her out and if they happen to have read any of my stories they really worry. And if I tell a guy I'm bi he starts fantasizing about me and him and some other chick.

I don't sit around and fantasize about my co-workers - they are my co-workers and I don't mess with that even though one of them is kinda hot. But she's totally straight and even if she wasn't I just wouldn't got there. I don't imagine my girl friends naked and I don't hit on other girls. I'm not dangerous - I swear. I've had one relationship that developed from a friendship. That's it. Yet I know that if I met someone that happened to turn me on and showed some interest and my fiance was OK with it, yes, I'd go there again. But my commitment is to my fiance so that means that I'm not in a position to get into a real relationship. Do I crave pussy? No, I don't. I enjoy being with a woman but I don't dream about it.

I also don't actively go out searching for a third partner in my relationship. My fiance and I have discussed it and we may go there at some point but it isn't a huge goal for us.

Being bi-sexual does not mean that I am a big horn dog looking to get action from men and women. Be bi-sexual does not mean that I need both men and women to be satisfied. Being bi-sexual does not mean what a lot of straight people think it means.

It simply means that there are some women I find attractive and there are some women I would consider being sexual with and there are some women I might meet that I would consider inviting into my bedroom with my fiance. It also means that I find my male partner very attractive and am very happy with him and will be happy having him as the only partner in my life if that is what we chose.

And that's why I don't tell many people in my real life that I am bi-sexual.

Another weekend is disappearing

My weekends disappear faster than you can snap your fingers. There is always so much catching up to do. I miss the days when weekends were for partying and playing. I think that was about 10 years ago before I had kids!

I've been updating the members area. Added two new shorts, and audio, and a new serial. Cillie is awesome. Although erotic, it is different in that it is kinda scary too. I haven't done much actual writing in the past few weeks. I've been more focused on the promotional aspect of the site. But I'm still thinking about being able to work from home and write and making a living off of it. I don't hate my job, but the majority of the time I'd rather be at home at my own desk, writing what I want to write, rather than in an office where I need to be a "good employee". And the stress of it all is starting to get to me. I'm bitchy. I'm whiny. I count the minutes on the clock everyday and I know that is not a good sign of anything.
